This half term we have been learning about ‘Continents of our World’. We discovered that Continents are large pieces of land around the globe and we found out there are 7 of them! We learnt a song to help us name continents and studied world maps to find out their location. We use the CUSP curriculum and have knowledge notes to look at to help us learn.

Year 2 – Forest Schools
Year 2 have had lots of fun at forest schools this week! They created necklaces, tools, bows and arrows.
Tag Rugby
We loved having a rugby session with a coach from Wymondham Rugby Club! We enjoyed practising our skills and showed a fantastic attitude throughout. We definitely didn’t mind getting muddy! We hope to do it again sometime!
Nursery w/b 9.10.23
Our story will be: I am Nefertiti
Our rhyme of the week will be: Incy Wincy Spider
Our maths work will focus on: Making comparisons according to size – big, bigger, biggest, small, smaller, smallest
We will also be: exploring musical instruments and the sounds they make, practising our scissor skills (snipping playdough, spaghetti, leaves and paper), making autumn crowns in Forest School, and learning to recognise and write our names.
Forest School Fun
We have had so much fun exploring our Forest School area this week. We have been investigating what insects and bugs we could find, as well as what is growing in our natural environment around school. We had opportunities to use the tools to create wonderful objects. We ended the week with a Forest Schools Tea Party and we had the most amazing time!
A trip back to the Stone Age
Year 3 had a busy day experiencing life in Neolithic Britain. The amazing team at Gressenhall put on a series of activities to help the children understand some of the tools the people in the Stone Age used, some of the resources they would have survived on, and finally, the thing that changed human civilisation forever… farming.
The children looked at Palaeolithic tools made from the all-important flint stone and whittled some wood with a small piece themselves to see what it was like. They then found out what they might have hunted and gathered and practised hunting a (pretend) wild boar. After lunch, they used their collaborative skills and practiced making shelters as the hunter gatherers would have done. They finally had a go at farming – the major change in the Neolithic era that meant humans could create a surplus of resources and stay in one place!
Thank you to our fantastic Browick Road Friends for helping to fund our coach.
Making Marks and Making Music in Year 3
The children have been learning about rhythm and playing along with the chime bars to RnB song, Let Your Spirit Fly. It’s beginning to sound really great when combined with their voices in a song all about singing and playing and having fun.
In art, the children explored the natural shapes in rocks and fossils and then created their own uniquely abstract image of contrasting patterns.
And finally, the children demonstrated some amazing control in PE while learning the skills of dribbling in hockey.
Drawing Skills in Art
Over the last few weeks we have been exploring the art form of ‘drawing’. We have investigated the use of different media on different types of paper and card. We talked about which media was our favourite to draw with and charcoal pencils came out most popular! We discovered that tracing paper created a nice surface to smudge pencils on.
This week we learnt drawing techniques such as shading and cross-hatching as a way to help us convey meaning and feelings. We all drew pictures of the weather inspired by the book ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies.
Nursery w/b 2.10.23
Our story will be: The Same but Different Too by Karl Newson
Our rhyme of the week will be: Hickory, Dickory, Dock
Our maths work will focus on: Comparing, sorting and opposites
We will also be: practising our pincer grips whilst tearing paper for collages and masking tape for a special art activity and using pegs, listening out for rhyming words, making a collection of items to explore ‘long’ and ‘short’ and ‘big’ and ‘small’ in Forest School, and catching up with the baking we didn’t fit in last week!
Forest School Fun
The Rising 4s had a fabulous first Forest School session this morning! After listening carefully to the special Forest School rules we need to follow to keep us all safe, the children set off to explore. Everyone challenged themselves and had a great time swinging, climbing, balancing and investigating. We even managed to spot a frog in the pond! We continued our matching and sorting work with a colour treasure hunt, sticking the treasures we found on the matching colour board. Have a look at the photos to see all the different shades we managed to find!
