ATTENTION: NEW STUDY FINDS CHILDREN ARE … LAZY!

April 16, 2024

We had a great time in our English lesson today debating whether this headline was in fact true. We split into two groups to compile our argument either agreeing or disagreeing with this statement. Here were some of the arguments put forward in this debate:

Children are lazy

  • Lots of children spend all their spare time watching TV or gaming.
  • Children get loads of holiday time.
  • Parents do too much for children which makes them lazy.
  • The streets around the school are full of cars as many children prefer to drive to school instead of walk.
  • Children spend far too much time staring at a screen instead of being outside playing.
  •  Children often use iPads to watch videos which isn’t good for their mental or physical health.
  • Electronics are highly addictive and therefore children just can’t stop playing with them.

Children are not lazy

  • During holiday time, children are mostly going out doing things with their friends and family. and not just sitting around being lazy.
  • Most children walk to school if they can. Sometimes having to drive isn’t the child’s choice but their parents as they live too far away or their parent needs to go off to work after dropping them off.
  • The school day is tiring as children are physically and mentally active so sometimes they need time after school to relax.
  • Children use technology to get moving, such as watching Yoga tutorials.
  • Most children spend their spare time at a club, doing homework or going outside to play with friends.
  • Most children have strict rules around screen time so this time is limited and only a treat after being physically and mentally active all day.

We hope that Nonsense Research Ltd will be interested in the arguments we have put forward and hope we have managed to show them that children aren’t lazy (mostly!)

Y4 DT Structures

March 15, 2024

This half term we have been learning about structures. We have talked about engineers and architects and explored shapes that make strong structures. Here we are investigating triangles! We began by making geometric shapes using mini craft sticks and modelling clay. We discovered that triangles were much stronger than square shapes. To put our learning into action, we were challenged to make a geodesic dome out of dowel rods and elastic bands! After practising joining the rods in pairs, we worked in a group to create our 3D structure. It was tricky, but we didn’t give up! Can you tell we are very proud of our efforts?

World Book Day Dance Workshop

March 5, 2024

Today, we were lucky enough to have the West End Dance Company in to do a World Book Day themed dance workshop. They retold the story of Pinocchio and added a sequence of movements to go alongside this story. We got to come up with our own freeze frames as well as learning a short dance which we incorporated our freeze frames into. We enjoyed working as a whole class, in pairs and small groups. Everyone was so engaged, and our final performance was brilliant! We all left the hall with a huge smile on our faces.

Year 4 Tie-Dye

February 7, 2024

We have been busy learning about print making and textiles in Art this half term. We had a go at tie-dying some fabric. It was quite tricky to tie the elastic bands tight enough, but we persevered!

Safer Internet Day

February 6, 2024

To mark Safer Internet Day today, we had a fantastic workshop. We jumped into a digital world of heroes and villains, conquering tricky situations, being kind online, and keeping our ultra egos a secret. Everyone enjoyed getting to participate in this workshop and we were very quick to spot potential hazards whilst we explored the digital world.

Sewing Skills

January 19, 2024

We have been working super hard at developing our sewing skills. We needed to solve the problem…How do you stop a tea towel falling off a hook? We did this by creating a felt hook and attaching it to the tea towel. To do this we practised our running stitch, learnt to sew on a button and made a button hole. Some of us even gathered our fabric! As well as our sewing skills, we showed fantastic determination and resilience when we found it tricky! We are very proud of what we achieved!

Science – What teeth do humans have? What do they do?

January 9, 2024

This term, we are completing our biology unit in our Science sessions. We are going to build our understanding of biology by looking at human teeth, what teeth humans have and their roles for humans. We looked at the three different types of teeth that we have which are molars, incisors and canines. We had fun identifying the different teeth we have in our own mouths and then thinking about the distinctive jobs each type has.

Year 4’s Santa Dash!

December 8, 2023

We had so much fun doing our Santa Dash today! Everyone was in such good spirits and loved the festive music that accompanied the run!

Gymnastics – Balancing

November 27, 2023

We are enjoying having a PE coach, Laura, in to teach our Gymnastics this term. Our focus has been around balancing. We have previously been practising balancing by ourselves but in today’s session we buddied up and had a go at doing balances with a partner. Some of these balances were a bit tricky but with some support, we all managed to complete a range of balances. We are looking forward to putting our balances into a sequence to perform later on this term.

D.T. – Making Bread

November 21, 2023

We had a lot of fun baking our own bread rolls a couple of weeks ago although it did not quite go to plan. We were impressed by how much our dough rose when we left it to prove. Nevertheless, when we put them in the oven, some of the bread rolls got a bit burnt. The ones that were successful came out beautifully and we enjoyed tasting these ones. In today’s session, we evaluated what we have learnt about bread over the past few weeks. We have been investigating the difference between brown and white bread. Most of us think that white bread tastes delicious and we like the light, fluffy texture however it is not always as nutritional as brown bread and can lack fibre.
