Exploring Our Senses in RE

We have made a fantastic start to our new RE unit, exploring our big question: “What do my senses tell me about the world of religion and belief?”

We began our learning with a fun chocolate investigation, where we explored a bar of chocolate using our different senses. Some children used just one sense at a time, while another lucky volunteer got to experience the chocolate using all five senses!

We talked about what we could see, hear, smell, touch and taste, and thought carefully about how using our senses can change our experiences. We then discovered that in Hinduism, it is believed that using as many senses as possible can help people to have a richer experience when worshipping God.

It was a wonderful way to begin our unit and get us thinking about how our senses can help us understand the world around us, including different religions and beliefs.

And, of course, we ended the lesson by enjoying a piece of chocolate together, using all five of our senses!
