Year 1 Art

In Art, we have begun our painting unit. We practised our collaging skills to make a background of neutral colours. We learnt how to hold our paintbrush properly and to wash it carefully to keep our colours clean using the ‘dip, dip, dab’ technique. We used primary colours to paint blocks of colour onto our collage.

PE – Real PE

In our Real PE unit this term, we have been looking at footwork, co-ordination and balance. We have also been trying to work on personal goals such as trying hard, challenging ourselves and persevering when things are tough.  In our final session, we designed challenges requiring balancing on one leg and using our hands to pick up different objects whilst holding or manipulating others!

The children created varied heights using chairs and cones and they made the challenges harder by using objects that were trickier to hold on to.  They also used their non-dominant foot and changed the number of items!

Maths – Place Value

When learning about four digit numbers this half term, some of us found the concepts a bit tricky. To help us understand ones, tens, hundreds and thousands we use manipulatives called ‘dienes’ or ‘base ten’ blocks. These show a physical representation of each number, really helping us understand the relationship between them.

Spain Class Blog

Hello again! Thanks for joining us on the blog.

Today we will be showing you some art that we have been creating!

We sketched out a tree and some more wildlife .and then the couple of days later we coloured them in with bright showing colours that stand out. We used big and small paint brushes and made the picture look big and open.

Showing racism the red card:

We all dressed in red on Friday the 16th to make people more aware of racism and all the sadness and anger its causing out there.  Some places in countries such as Africa black people are still discriminated against because of their skin colour which is absolutely unacceptable. It’s not just people with a different colour skin though, others such as women, Nero-divergent people or people with different cultures are considered less important than their neighbours. THIS IS NOT TRUE! No person is less important than another no matter what colour their skin is, what gender they are, or if they have a disability or not.

If you see somebody bullying another because of this don’t be afraid to stand up for them. We are all humans. We are all equal.

Thanks for reading!

Where do plants and animals live?

Year 2 spent an afternoon predicting and exploring.

First, we predicted the microhabitats where certain creatures and plants were likely to be found.  We discussed our reasons for our predictions.  After thinking about how to care for the environment, we went outside to explore potential microhabitats.  We were thrilled with our findings and keen to share.  We compared our findings with our predictions.

Autumn in Year 6

Year 6 have had a busy start to the new school year, with lots of learning, swimming, talk of the residential and a school anniversary to celebrate!

Here are a few pictures from the first half term activities, including:

Just Dance (as part of our PSHE learning about our bodies and heart rates)

Victorian Day

Visiting Wymondham Heritage Museum

Making hummus and pitta breads in DT

and receiving a tree sapling to plant from Greening Wymondham

Victorian Day in Year 2

Year 2 enjoyed celebrating our school’s 150th anniversary. The children loved writing with chalk and chanting their number bonds.  Initially, it was strange to stand up when an adult came into the classroom, but the consensus was that it was a great movement break.  They enjoyed listening to our visitors from the Wymondham Heritage Museum and were fascinated by the forms of punishment.  A few children said that they preferred the books we write in today as you get to see all your work. They were disappointed when they cleaned their slate before another writing task.

Victorian Day in Denmark Class

To celebrate the school’s 150th anniversary, the children were invited to come in to class dressed as Victorians. We had lots of fun practising Victorian handwriting, playing Victorian playground games and following the rules of a Victorian classroom.

Trees

This week in our science lesson in Denmark Class we have learnt about trees. We discovered that the bark of a tree helps protect it and we went outside to investigate the bark covering the trees around the school field. We completed bark rubbings and noticed the rough, bumpy texture of the bark.
