In June, we had our reading cafe with family invited in to share a story and a lesson with us. We first read a little bit of ‘The Explorer’, by Katherine Rundell together, before heading over to tables to join our adults and make a clay cylinder using some new skills in the process. First, we rolled out a clay rectangle and kept a bit spare for decorations. Next, we used the ‘score’ (small marks on the clay) and ‘slip’ (little bit of water to help the clay bond) method to attach some decorations to our clay rectangle. To create the cylinder, we wrapped the clay around an ‘armature’ (the frame of a structure) and joined the ends using the score and slip method again. We then carefully pulled our armature out from inside our clay cylinder and smoothed over the joins. We had squash and a biscuit as well and had a really nice hour with our adults. Thanks all for coming.
