Welcome to France class. We are in Year 2 and our teacher is Miss Robertson. Mrs Riccobena and Miss Steer are our Teaching Assistants.
Last week we continued reading and writing poems. We looked at a monster poem and adapted this to suit our own monster. We used adjectives to describe our monster and it’s different parts.
This week we talked about listening to our bodies – if we have goosebumps, what does that mean? What about yawning? We discussed ways to calm down. Could you listen to something nice? Could you do some deep breaths and stretch? We then listened to some classical music and played with play dough to calm.
This week we have been reading, reciting and writing poetry. We thought about bonfire night have what you’d see, hear, taste, smell and feel. We used this as the basis for our own poetry.
We have been learning how to do the column method this week. We started with one-digit numbers and then moved on to two-digits. For an extra challenge, some children have been crossing the tens! Have a look at our differentiated work from today.
This week in Nurture time we painted pictures to different pieces of classical music. Firstly, Mrs Riccobena asked us how the music made us feel and we moved our arms to the music. Then we listened a second time and chose appropriate colours to create our artwork. Can you tell which feelings are represented in the artwork?
In Real PE today we practised skipping, hopping and side stepping. We worked with a partner to check our technique and we give each other tips to improve.
This week’s nurture activity was based on The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. We talked about our feelings and explained that all of those feelings are ok. We each had our own colour monster to colour to show how we felt. What colour would your monster be and why?
This week we have been designing and making finger puppets. We chose a character from a traditional tale and cut our shape out of felt – this part was quite tricky! After that, we sewed the felt together and added details. This afternoon, we got into groups and performed our stories – it was a lot of fun!
This week in Nurture we read the book ‘If You Plant a Seed’. It talked about kindness and how much it can grow if cared for. We wrote or drew a picture of something kind and put this in the bottom of our newspaper pot. We took turns in adding the soil and planting a pea. Let’s see how well our kindness grows!
We have been busy making hope and dream flags this afternoon! The children talked about their dreams for the future and decorated their flag. They then did a running stitch to hang it up. I’m sure that you’ll agree that they look brilliant!
