New additions to our garden

Over the half term break, Phase Two of our garden redevelopment has been completed.  We now have an amazing sand and water area, giving the children so many opportunities for exploration, motor skill development and problem-solving, and a beautiful pebbled ‘beach’, providing different natural textures and lots of sensory stimulation.  The children have already been making the most of the new additions, as you can see!

Reception wb 4.11.24

Autumn Term

This half term we have been learning about the use of graphic line in art to show movement and texture,  inspired by cave art and Vincent Van Gogh’s use of thick paint (impasto). We have learned how to use sgraffito painting, where a layer of thick paint is applied over a layer of colour and then marks created with impasto over the top. We also tried out tonking, which is applying paint then dabbing and blotting with scrunched paper. It was lots of fun! The final piece was to design an imaginary creature using these techniques.

Diwali Dance Workshop

Today, the children were very lucky to receive a workshop led by John, a professional dancer.  Through dance, they told the story of Rama and Sita, a tale which is celebrated each year at Diwali.  Diwali is the annual Hindu Festival of Light.  The story of Rama and Sita is about Rama rescuing Sita from a demon King Ravana with the help of Hanuman and his monkey army.  The children had a wonderful time representing the characters and were so well-behaved!  Well done, Year 4!

An exciting visitor!

This morning we were visited by Sharon, the Community Champion from Morrisons Supermarket in Wymondham.  She brought with her an extremely generous donation of toys from their new wooden toy range.  We are now the proud owners of a beautiful wooden till and four trays of wooden food, which will really enhance our imaginative role play.  Thank you Morrisons!

Nursery w/b 4.11.24

Our story will be:  Home is Where the Birds Sing

Our rhyme of the week will be:  The Farmer’s in his Den

Our maths work will focus on:   naming and using 2d shapes

We will also be:  talking about fireworks, writing our own class firework poem and creating some beautiful firework art.

Where did all these toys come from?

When we returned from break on Monday, we discovered a big mess in our role play area! One of us spotted that there was a soft toy in the tree! We went to investigate and look for clues. We were so surprised to find other toys hiding! A bear in a box, a ladybird in the shop area and a kangaroo sleeping in the bed of the little house! Thankfully, we all managed to find a toy. We then named our toys and thought about adjectives we could use to describe them. We came up with some really good ideas and worked hard on writing sentences about them!

How Do Electronic Devices Work

In year three we’ve been enjoying finding out how electronic devices work by input, process and output. This includes computers so we have explored paint programs and how the output is different to non-digital artwork.

We learned  that computers link in a network, and to understand this better thought about what a network is in our own lives before finding out how computers do this.

We practised being a computer network in class, passing many messages to different computers at the same time. It was fun but hard work until we discovered the network switch (a bit like a postman) speeds things up.

School disco night!

Thanks to the Friends of the school for organising the disco! Year 4 and 5 enjoyed the work of DJ Neil and his accomplice who kept the children boogeying and singing.
