Welcome to China class! We are the Reception class. Mrs. Robertson is our teacher and Mrs. Thari is our teaching assistant.
In Reception, you'll find us busy learning through play every day. We balance whole-class teaching, individual and small group work with lots of planned and free play activities. Watching, playing with and talking to the children about what they're doing and enjoying, helps us plan to grow their learning. We use the online learning journal 'Tapestry' to work with parents too.

What does a good writer do in Reception?

This half term, the Reception children have been learning all about bees (and other pollinators) and how important they are to the natural world. We have spent time learning Pie Corbett’s story, ‘The Sleepy Bumblebee’ and have read the A A Milne classic, ‘Winnie the Pooh Saves the Bees’, as well as lots of non-fiction books, and have been observing the bees in our own garden. Having found out that bees are being threatened by the removal of so much of their natural food supply, the children decided we should create our own bee café. With a bit of careful research, we found some pollinator-friendly plants and even created a special bee water station, complete with stepping stones to stop them getting wet. The finishing touch was the addition of some orange chunks for the butterflies! The children also had lots of fun and practised their phonics skills whilst making some posters to let the bees know that their new café is officially open!

We will also be: Measuring the height of beanstalks, retelling the story with props and painting beanstalks.
This week, we have been learning all about maps! We started by reading the story Martha Maps It Out and talking about where we live. The children explored a map of Wymondham and identified key human features such as schools, the library and the abbey.
The children then got creative by designing and building their own structures using junk modelling, which we then added to our very own class town. To bring everything together, we worked collaboratively to create a large map, adding shops, schools, and houses using colourful sugar paper. It was a fantastic way to combine geography skills with creativity!
