Andy and Elisabeth from Hope Church in Wymondham visited Year 1 to deliver “Christmas in a Box”. The children participated in a retelling of the Christmas story, along with craft activities. We learnt about communities coming together at Christmas and why celebrations are important.
Thank you very much, Andy and Elisabeth. We had a very enjoyable and memorable morning with you.

We all took a trip to Norwich. It was a sensational experience which we all enjoyed and won’t forget! After we sat down in the auditorium and found out about the day, we took on our first activity which was learning about how they used to farm in ancient civilisations. We learnt about how ancient people developed their farms, the figuring out of irrigation, and using tools such as the sickle and quern stone. Next, we learnt about writing. We practised an ancient writing technique called ‘cuneiform’, which was developed in the ancient Sumerian civilisation. It was fun and interesting!
After lunch, we learnt about philosophy where we were presented with different situations. One of the situations was Theseus’s rocket ship. When he crashed, he changed some of the pieces and we had to philosophise over where the rocket was still his. Finally, we did building. We built cities in groups out of wooden blocks which was fun! We all had a great time. Thank you teachers for taking us on this lovely school trip.

In geography, we have been researching about the continents and oceans that cover our world. We found out there are 7 continents and 5 oceans! We discovered that each continent and ocean has its own special features and it taught us there are so many different places around the world. We worked together to see if we could name our continents and oceans and identify where they are in the world.
Our history focus this term is ‘changes within living history’. We have been discovering how shops and shopping has changed over the decades. We travelled back in time to the 1950s and discovered that there were no supermarkets and people had to go to smaller shops which sold specific things in order to do their shopping. A lot of people did not have a fridge in their house so shopping was done more frequently too! We also discovered there was no internet shopping in the 50s and people paid in cash, with the shop keeper helping the customer to get all the things they needed.
