Year 6 had a brilliant trip to Gressenhall last week. They dressed up as WW2 evacuees and spent the day learning what life would have been like for children at that time. They enjoyed going inside an Anderson shelter, working on the farm, learning about the Women’s Land Army, finding out more about rationing and training with the Home Guard. It was a great day and they all learned a lot from it – as well as being able to share lots of facts from our History lessons. We will be using the day as inspiration for our writing in the next couple of weeks – keep a look out for some examples to be shared on here!

India class investigated an unexpected sound in the wildlife area. We discovered many unusual things, including shells, pink and blue leaves, and a book. After investigating further, we found a strange blue creature beside the pond and in the long grass. The creature had a tag attached that read ‘please look after me.’
We carefully brought the creature to our classroom, and we read the book.
By the end of the story, we decided that the creature we found was, in fact, a Bog Baby. We discussed what he might be and where he might have come from. Someone suggested he might have come to the pond’s surface as he was hungry. One child said that he was lost. Two children thought he had no family. Everyone agreed that we would look after the creature, but if it got sick, then we would take it back to the forest where it belongs.
In DT, we have been learning about textiles. We made a patchwork collage of different types of materials by making and using a template. We compared their properties. We were very excited to make felt houses. We made cardboard templates, drew round them on fabric using chalk, cut them out carefully and used running stitch to attach the roof and applique the door and windows. We showed amazing determination if it got tricky and enjoyed learning new skills.

We will also be: learning about Remembrance Day, responding to the provocation of ‘poppies’ on the craft tables, continuing with Fred Talk and learning about ‘characters’ in stories.
Our work in RE this term has been about Christianity and our enquiry question was, “Where do Christian beliefs come from?” We have studied a story from the Bible and looked at the lessons that Bible stories can teach. In order to consolidate our learning, we had a wonderful visit from Father Andrew, Vicar at Wymondham Abbey. The children came up with some wonderful questions including, “Why did you choose to become a Christian?”, “What are your favourite stories from the Bible?”, “Who or what inspired you to be a Christian?”
We really enjoyed Father Andrew’s visit, and he really helped us understand Christianity better.
In DT, we made flatbread. We loved making and working with our own groups. We also loved eating it at the end. It wasn’t all perfect though – some groups added a little too much salt. It was also amusing grating the butter because some groups thought it was a sticky situation and it took them a while to conquer. We got there in the end and we all enjoyed the lesson! We were also visited by a professional dancer who taught us a Diwali dance to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights.
