We all took a trip to Norwich. It was a sensational experience which we all enjoyed and won’t forget! After we sat down in the auditorium and found out about the day, we took on our first activity which was learning about how they used to farm in ancient civilisations. We learnt about how ancient people developed their farms, the figuring out of irrigation, and using tools such as the sickle and quern stone. Next, we learnt about writing. We practised an ancient writing technique called ‘cuneiform’, which was developed in the ancient Sumerian civilisation. It was fun and interesting!
After lunch, we learnt about philosophy where we were presented with different situations. One of the situations was Theseus’s rocket ship. When he crashed, he changed some of the pieces and we had to philosophise over where the rocket was still his. Finally, we did building. We built cities in groups out of wooden blocks which was fun! We all had a great time. Thank you teachers for taking us on this lovely school trip.

In DT, we made flatbread. We loved making and working with our own groups. We also loved eating it at the end. It wasn’t all perfect though – some groups added a little too much salt. It was also amusing grating the butter because some groups thought it was a sticky situation and it took them a while to conquer. We got there in the end and we all enjoyed the lesson! The recipe is down below! We hope you enjoy it if you make it home.
We were also visited by a professional dancer who taught us a Diwali dance to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights.

In Science, we had some fun on experimenting on how long it takes a solute and a solvent to mix together to make a solution. It came out to be really fun.
In PE, we are starting a rugby unit. In these lessons we have had a lot of fun playing games of tag rugby. In the pictures, you can see some students are playing a friendly game.
In art, we learnt about Friedensreich Hundertwasser. He was born in 1925. While he was alive he did some amazing drawings that we did. One thing we found is that he doesn’t like using a ruler! We copied the picture with the view finders we made ourselves. And today, we enlarged and painted our abstract Hundertwasser inspired pictures.

Last week, we did a STEM lego learning challenge which was really fun and tested our brains. We also learnt that STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Altogether we did five lego challenges (such as designing and building a vehicle that could explore a planet), which were amazing and we all had a really good time building.

Note from Mr Bamford: Big thanks to Wymondham High School and Mr Brown for the loan of the kits and the opportunity to complete these challenges which were introduced and delivered by RAF in collaboration with ‘Raising Robots’.

In our first week of Year 5, we did a 15 question quiz which was really fun and we all had a good laugh. We also played a game called ‘Mystery Me’ where we had to guess each other’s identity. Then we did art where we had inspiration from a video to decorate the front cover of our art books with all different shades of colour. It went really well! Finally, we did some writing about what we are good at and what we are looking forward to in Year 5!
