PE in Year 1

This half term in P.E, we have been learning about balancing.  Our song “I’m riding on my bike” helped us to explore and practise lots of difference types of balances.  We were also lucky to have some fantastic visitors who helped us to learn.  Ms Mooney taught us dance moves every Thursday.  We enjoyed a special Diwali dance workshop, and we had an exciting a rugby lesson.  We hope you enjoy looking at some of our photos.

This half term in Reception

Reception have had a wonderfully busy and exciting first half term at school! We’ve been reading the story of The Gingerbread Man: retelling it with our friends, creating our own story maps and creating new characters who run away! To top it off, we baked our very own gingerbread men and enjoyed eating them together.

In phonics, we’ve introduced Fred the frog and have been practising our ‘Fred Talk’ to help us blend sounds into words. The children have now learned all the single letter sounds and are beginning to read simple, 3-letter words using the ‘Fred talk, read the word’ strategy.

In maths, we’ve explored repeating patterns, compared sizes and lengths, and focused on understanding the numbers 1, 2, and 3 through hands-on activities and play.

As autumn arrived, we’ve been observing seasonal changes and getting stuck into sensory exploration with our autumn-themed tuff tray. We’ve painted pumpkins, played in crunchy autumn leaves and talked about how the weather is changing.

It’s been a fantastic start to the year and we can’t wait to see what the next half term brings!

Diwali

In Denmark Class, we have been learning about Hinduism in RE. With Diwali celebrations happening this week, we enjoyed a whole day of activities learning more about Hindu traditions. We made Diwali sweets, clay diya lamps, rangoli artwork and tried traditional dancing. We used all we had learnt to complete brilliant acrostic poems.

Music, Art and PE

A few pictures from the first few weeks of term – Music technology, close-up drawings in Art and tag-rugby games in PE. The children have been working hard on their artwork this term and are currently working on their final pieces of the units – self-portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo. Stay posted for their finished pictures!

Year 2 Dance

We have had a fantastic time in PE learning dance this half term. We have learnt about long, folded, moving and entwined shapes. We have listened carefully to different types of music and moved in time. Our routines were creative and we showed some super teamwork skills. It was great fun!

Forest School Autumn 2025

This term, our year group has had the chance to visit forest school!  Each house has the opportunity to work with Jules Jackdaw and enjoy special activities they wouldn’t get to do anywhere else. This week it was Holkham’s turn.  We began the session under the shelter where everyone introduced themselves using their forest school names.  Then, the children were given the opportunity to go and explore the forest area.  Some chose to work in the mud kitchen, some chose to build crossbows, some climbed trees and some chose to do a mixture of everything and anything!  We had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed this amazing resource.
